Vacancy: Saddler

Title: Saddler
Reports to: Team Leader
Job purpose: Responsible for producing saddles to customers specification

Key responsibilities and accountabilities

  • Assembles, and joins leather parts and other materials to form a saddle, following specifications, such as size of saddle, colour, custom options or type of saddle:
  • Deciding on leather for seats matches company standard
  • Blocking leather for seat, marking seaming and ensuring that these are level and square
  • Flap fitting level and square
  • Panel stuffing to customer and company requirements
  • Girth straps stitched on correctly and secure
  • Forepeice and facings fittings correctly
  • Attaches accessories or ornamentation to saddle with rivets or needle and thread.
  • Clean product down when completed.
  • Carries out repairs to saddles when required to do so
  • Ensures that every saddle produced is of a quality standard before it is despatched
  • Attend saddle fittings if required to do so
  • Comply with all Health and Safety requirements – i.e. ensuring that PPE is worn when needed
  • Attend training courses as and when required so to keep up with industry standards

Qualifications and experience

  • Trained saddle maker
  • GCSE level of education
  • Practical skill level
  • Knowledge of manufacturing and production processes

Vacancy: Sewing Machinist

Title: Sewing Machinist
Reports to: Sewing Machinist Senior
Job purpose: To undertake sewing of saddler products using appropriate industrial sewing machines as instructed and to ensure that all tasks are carried our efficiently and effectively with a high level of attention to detail

Key responsibilities and accountabilities

• Sewing saddlery products to the correct specification
• Sewing panels and seaming
• Ensure that all defects are reported and dealt with quickly
• Communicate production issues to the Prep team leader and Sewing Machinist Senior.

Qualifications and experience

• Good communicator
• Experience in sewing leather accessories

Vacancy: Leather Preparer

Title: Leather Preparer
Reports to: Team Leader
Job purpose: Responsible for preparing leather for saddles and quality checking leather

Key responsibilities and accountabilities

  • Preparing leather hides for use in saddlery
  • Stitching of leather may be done by hand or using a machine
  • Leather can also be joined together using glue
  • Decorating leather using methods such as painting, dyeing and stamping. A variety of machine and hand tools are used to carry out tasks such as cutting, stitching and adding fittings, like handles and buckles
  • Apply balm to produce glossy finish, using brush or sponge
  • Ensures that leatherwork is of a quality standard before it is passed to saddlery
  • Comply with all Health and Safety requirements – i.e. ensuring that PPE is worn when needed
  • Attend training courses as and when required so to keep up with industry standards

  • Trained leather preparer
  • GCSE level of education
  • Practical skill level
  • Knowledge of production and manufacturing processes
